One Dead, Eleven Injured in Israeli Airstrike in Southern Lebanon

(MENAFN) One government employee was killed and 11 others wounded on Wednesday when an Israeli airstrike struck a vehicle in the village of al-Tiri, located in Lebanon’s southern Bint Jbeil district, media reported.

Bilal Cheaito, the village treasurer of al-Tiri, died after the strike hit his vehicle. “The blast also wounded 10 students whose school bus was passing nearby, along with the bus driver,” media report said.

The attack ignited the vehicle, prompting civil defense teams to extinguish the flames. The injured were subsequently taken to a hospital in Bint Jbeil.

Security sources told a Chinese news outlet that the killed individual was a member of Hezbollah, though no additional details were provided.

A ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel has been in place since Nov. 27, 2024, largely halting clashes that erupted following the Gaza conflict.

Despite the ceasefire, the Israeli military continues to conduct occasional strikes in Lebanon, asserting that they target Hezbollah “threats,” and maintains forces at five major positions along the Lebanese border.
