Israeli forces strike southern Gaza’s yellow zone again
Residents reported that Israeli artillery heavily bombarded eastern parts of Rafah, sending columns of smoke into the sky. Witnesses also described intense gunfire from Israeli helicopters over eastern Khan Younis. There were no immediate reports of casualties.
According to local authorities, the Israeli army has committed over 590 violations of the ceasefire, resulting in the deaths of at least 357 Palestinians and injuries to 903 others.
The ceasefire, mediated by Türkiye, Egypt, and Qatar and supported by the United States, took effect on October 10 to halt two years of Israeli attacks that have killed more than 70,000 people—mostly women and children—and injured over 170,000 since October 2023.
Phase one of the ceasefire agreement includes the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, along with plans to rebuild Gaza and establish a new governing system independent of Hamas.
