Israeli army conducts airstrikes, home demolitions in Gaza

(MENAFN) Despite an ongoing ceasefire agreement, the Israeli army launched airstrikes and carried out home demolitions in Gaza early Sunday, escalating violence in the region. Israeli aircraft targeted multiple locations in Rafah, while naval vessels shelled the city's coastline, according to local sources and witnesses.

Military vehicles stationed near the Morag Axis, to the northeast of Rafah, were involved in sweeping operations and heavy gunfire. In addition, Israeli artillery shelled eastern Khan Younis, and helicopters fired on buildings as part of a series of home demolitions in the area. Israeli airstrikes also hit east of the Al-Bureij refugee camp in Deir al-Balah in central Gaza, with further strikes reported in northern Gaza, targeting eastern Gaza City and eastern Jabalia, where intense helicopter gunfire was observed.

At this stage, no immediate reports of casualties have been confirmed.

These actions are seen as violations of the ceasefire agreement signed between Israel and Hamas, with the Gaza government reporting nearly 500 violations by Israel since October 10.

According to Gaza authorities, the conflict has resulted in the deaths of 354 Palestinians in the past few weeks, adding to the devastating toll of more than 70,000 lives lost since October 2023. The ongoing violence has left much of Gaza in ruins, with nearly 171,000 people injured.
