Yemen’s Houthis Conduct First Attack on Southern Israel
Spokesperson Yahya Saree released a video message on the US-based social media platform X, stating: “The Yemeni Armed Forces (Houthi forces) conducted their first military operation using a barrage of ballistic missiles against sensitive military objectives of the Israeli enemy in southern occupied Palestine.”
He emphasized that the assault was carried out “in response to ongoing military escalation, targeting of infrastructure, and perpetration of crimes and massacres against our brothers in Lebanon, Iran, Iraq, and Palestine.”
The Houthi representative also cautioned that the group’s activities “will continue until the declared objectives are achieved.”
Earlier on Saturday, an Israeli public broadcaster reported that the armed forces “identified launches from Yemen toward southern Israel for the first time since the beginning of this war.”
This surge in hostilities came after the Houthis issued a warning late Friday about potential “direct military intervention” if new coalitions side with the US and Israel against Iran, or if the Red Sea is utilized for operations aimed at Tehran.
In previous instances, the Yemeni faction targeted Israel and Red Sea maritime routes with missile and drone strikes, responding to Israel’s ongoing offensive in Gaza, where more than 72,000 individuals have perished since October 2023.
