Israeli Military Operation in Tulkarem Camps Prolonged Through July

(MENAFN) Israeli forces have decided to continue their military activities in the Tulkarem and Nur Shams refugee camps in the northern occupied West Bank until July 31, according to local officials.

According to reports, Tulkarem Governor Abdullah Kamil confirmed that the military operation in both camps will remain in effect through the end of next month.

The operation originally began on Jan. 21, 2025, as part of a broader military campaign launched in the northern occupied West Bank. The campaign first focused on Jenin before later expanding to the Tulkarem and Nur Shams refugee camps, which are situated within Tulkarem governorate.

Kamil said the extension will further intensify the hardships faced by thousands of displaced families who have been affected by the continuing operation.

According to reports, widespread destruction has accompanied the military activities, including the demolition of residential and commercial buildings, damage to infrastructure and extensive bulldozing inside the camps. These developments have further strained both humanitarian and economic conditions for local residents.

The governor also repeated calls for immediate action by international organizations and human rights bodies, urging them to intervene and work toward ending the operation.

Reports indicate that since the outbreak of the Gaza war on Oct. 8, 2023, violence involving Israeli forces and settlers across the West Bank has resulted in the deaths of 1,168 Palestinians. Around 12,660 others have reportedly been injured, while approximately 33,000 people have been detained.
